I turned it as thin as I could, probably too thin in a couple of spots. The wood cut very well, requiring almost no sanding. I might have found a new favorite wood except it's pretty much impossible to get around here.
After turning was completed I popped it in the microwave for 60 seconds a couple of times to start to dry it and to force it to warp.
That's awesome Jason. I really like that. Hey, Christian mentioned in our class he would give us the phone number of his supplier. It wouldn't be able to be a regular thing because if quantity, but if we get enough people interested, we might be able to buy some together and have it shipped.
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested. It seems like he said he pays about $1/lb, up to $1.50/lb if it's really good stuff. We'd be more like $2/lb after factoring in shipping.
ReplyDeletePlease forward that info to the rest of us as I would love to try to madroe burl, and I am not seeing any here in southern Ontario.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Steve
